Carlo Bianco is the CEO of THEMA S.A., the Operations and Maintenance Company managing the Thessaloniki Metro Network.
He is committed to providing a transport service that fulfils the highest safety standards. He is a firm advocate of sustainable urban mobility, green and energy – efficient solutions and innovation.
He has a vast experience as a senior rail Operations Director with railway management roles stretching back to the 1980s.
He is an expert in a broad spectrum of activities such as rail mobilization, rail operations and maintenance delivery, always within ATM group, the operator of Public Transport in the city of Milan (Italy).
During his career, Mr Bianco supervised multiple projects of driverless metros in various locations. In 2011 he was responsible for the start-up and operations of the driverless line of Princess Nourah University in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia;in 2012 of the M5 automated line in Milan, Italy;in 2018 of the automated metro line 3 in Copenhagen, Denmark;and in 2019 of the M4 automated metro line in Milan, Italy.
Additionally, from 2019 to 2023 Mr Bianco has been Chairman of the UITP Observatory of Automated Metros and since 2013 he has been serving as Deputy Chairman of the Board of Metro Service A/S Copenhagen.
